Temperature
A cold battery delivers less usable energy, and heating the cabin uses energy too.
Speed
Aerodynamic drag grows with the square of speed, so motorway driving uses much more energy per km.
Wheels and tyres
Larger wheels, winter tyres and low pressure increase rolling resistance.
Climate and extras
Heating, cooling, seat heaters and Sentry-style standby draw from the same battery.
Terrain, wind and load
Climbs, headwind, passengers and roof boxes all add energy per km.
Test cycle
Rated figures come from standard lab cycles (WLTP, EPA) at mild temperatures, not your route.
Questions
Does this show my battery's health?
No. It only compares two range numbers you enter. Battery condition cannot be read from a single range difference, because temperature, speed and climate use change it from day to day.
Why is my observed range lower than the rated range?
Rated range comes from a standard test at mild temperature and moderate speed. Cold weather, motorway speed, heating, big wheels and terrain all reduce the distance you get.
How can I compare more fairly?
Compare readings taken in similar conditions: the same season, similar speeds and the same wheels. A single reading says little; a trend over months says more.
